Model Highlights

Powering the Hyundai Sonata is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that makes 191 horsepower; up from last year's 185. The optional turbocharged 1.6L 4-cylinder makes 180 horsepower. A new 8-speed automatic is the only transmission option, sending power to the front wheels. Hyundai claims anywhere from 36 mpg to 38 mpg on the highway depending on trim. Step into the base SE model and it immediately becomes obvious that Hyundai has improved more than just exterior styling. A bigger 8-inch LCD screen is now standard and the cockpit feels generally more airy and open. Standard features now include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands free wireless phone connectivity with audio streaming a rearview monitor with parking lines, both lane-keep and lane following assist functions for the cruise control, a stop-and-go-function for that cruise control, automatic high beams, a rear occupant alert system, forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights, power side mirrors and automatic climate control. The SEL version adds heated front seats, an 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, rear cross traffic alert and collision avoidance, a blind spot monitoring system with collision avoidance, a proximity key with push button start, 17-inch wheels, a sportier front and rear fascia with twin tip mufflers, heated side mirrors with built in turn signals, a 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster display, dual-zone climate control and chrome accents throughout the exterior. A bit more sportiness is on offer with the SEL Plus trim, which gets the turbocharged engine, paddle shifters and 18-inch wheels with lower profile tires and some gloss black around the exterior. Inside, the SEL Plus trim gets suede/leatherette seating surfaces, aluminum pedals, wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming interior mirror and a digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The SEL Plus also offers a smartphone app-based unlocking system. The top of the line Limited trim adds a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera interface displayed through a larger 10.25-inch screen, built-in navigation and a remote parking assist function.
